Family Plans

It is important to make plans with your family about what you would do during an emergency. This includes making plans of who to call out of state, emergency escape plans, and meeting spots.

List of Phone Numbers

Important Phone Numbers:

  • Parents

  • Sibiling (if applicable)

  • Grandparents

  • Other close family in the area

  • Out of State Family

Your family may not be able to reach each other because local lines are down. Make sure to plan ahead and call the same out of state family member. This way they can tell you how your children (or parents) are. EXTRA TIP: if you text you may be able to reach local lines or if you can't call out of state, try texting!

Let's be honest, we don't know most people's phone numbers of the top of our head. It is important that everyone in your family has a list of emergency numbers in the case that they cannot use their phone.

Family Escape Plan

In an emergency, you want to be aware of ways to escape your home in an easy way. Check around your house in every room for the exits. If one is on the 2nd story of your home and has a window, make sure to practice getting down and possibly purchase a latter to climb down. Make sure to talk with your family ahead of time about these plans and practice too!

Once you get out of your home you want to have a place to go. Set a location outside of your home to meet. Make sure that it would be accessible if your home was not safe to be near. A good location in on the sidewalk outside.

In the case of living in apartment or complex of some sort, make sure to check out the complex layout and speak with your family. Then choose a place in your neighborhood to meet at. Also, locate gas taps in your neighborhood for safety turn off circumstances.
